My first year as a performing arts student has been fantastic so far. I have learnt a lot of new skills, from focus and ensemble work to stillness and analysing text, and I’ve had a laugh with my friends and fellow students along the way.

The first term has involved lots of hard, but fun, work. We have started to think of ideas for our individual pieces coming up in the Spring Term, and also picked out Shakespeare monologues that are challenging but interesting. My monologue is from Taming of the Shrew, and I look forward to performing it next term.

We also had our first assessment this term, which involved adapting two Greek texts; Antigone and Lysistrata. My group did Lysistrata, and as it is a comedy we had loads of fun performing it, but we also learnt how to work together as a group in order to put on the best piece we could.

I am really looking forward to next term as we’ll be working with the second years. I hope this course continues to be as great as this first term has been. It’s been a wonderful course so far with really great tutors.
